Just Like Take Out!
Nutritious for the trail, this chow mein dish is easy to pack in and easy to modify. We paired (and cooked) with a black IPA that added a great flavor to the sauce.
Ingredients (Serves 3):
- 1 package of chow mein or ramen (flavored or unflavored)
- 1 1/2 cup dried shiitake mushrooms (whole)
- 1 package organic seaweed chips (sesame)
- 1 package Mongolian beef seasoning mix
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/4 cup of dark beer
Start with 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Add the noodles and dried mushrooms to the boil. Follow with the sesame oil. Break up a handful of seaweed chips and add those as well.
At this point you can enjoy as a soup, or let cook a little longer over a simmer to thicken.
Once the mixture starts to thicken, add the beer. Bring back up to a boil and add the seasoning mix, adding a little bit at a time until you get the taste you like.
Stir and enjoy. Watch chef make chow mein just like take out.
